Does your cream contain the most important ingredient?

29 November, 2020

If the goal is a healthy and beautiful skin in balance, there is one ingredient that is more important than all other ingredients, regardless of age and gender: vitamin A.

What is vitamin A?

Vitamin A belongs to a group of organic chemicals called retinoids. Vitamin A is available in several different chemical formulations. The ester form retinyl palmitate is most commonly used, but also the alcohol form retinol and the acid reform tretinoin is used for the prevention and improvement of ageing, uneven skin tone and increased collagen formation. Isotretinoin, which is used for severe acne, is also a form of vitamin A, as vitamin A is also a sebum regulator.

Why is vitamin A so important for your skin?

Vitamin A has long been recognized as the «skin vitamin», leading to increased collagen formation, skin renewal and improvement of sun damage. The fact that vitamin A also plays a very important role in a healthy skin balance, a well-functioning immune system in the skin, a healthy tissue condition and the normalization of pigmentation processes in the skin has been increasingly recognized in recent years. In addition, retinyl palmitate in particular has UV-absorbing properties, which means that if your skin cream contains high enough doses of this form of vitamin A in the right formulation, a sun-protective effect equivalent to a sun protection factor (SPF) of 20 is achieved, without the same chemical substances found in ordinary sun protection products.

The skin is depleted of vitamin a by UV exposure, which means that it needs regular daily replenishment to avoid vitamin a deficiency in the skin. Intake via food will not be able to replace application directly to the skin to ensure sufficient amounts for healthy skin.

I carry research-based products with therapeutic doses of vitamin a to make a difference for your skin. Get in touch if you'd like a no-obligation consultation to help you achieve a healthy and vital skin in balance.
