Are injection treatments dangerous?

November 4, 2022

The short answer to this question is that all such treatments have a certain risk of complications. How can you ensure that this risk is minimized?

Injection treatments in this context refer to cosmetic-medical skin treatments where something is injected into various layers of the skin and face, with the aim of smoothing wrinkles, replacing volume loss, contour and definition, as well as improving skin quality, skin health and skin vitality.

In recent years, there has been enormous development in this field and in several countries it has become a separate specialty within medicine. This is not the case in Norway, but the authorities are working to tighten the conditions for such treatments. Legislation currently requires that you must be a healthcare professional to perform such treatments, without further specification. You should therefore ask for the therapist's expertise; that he or she is a doctor, nurse or dentist, with experience and expertise in these treatments.

The products and techniques have changed and improved in line with increased knowledge of the anatomy of the skin and face and what happens as we age. The focus has shifted from chasing wrinkles and lines, to a more holistic focus on skin health, proportion and restoration, where the goal is restoration and natural results. More complex and advanced treatments require more from the practitioner in terms of experience in addition to good knowledge in several areas, such as anatomy, aesthetics, complication management, techniques and product properties.

As mentioned in the introduction, injection treatments will always involve a certain risk of unfortunate consequences such as infections, lumps, damage to nerves and blood vessels, to name but a few. Fortunately, this risk can be minimized with a skilled practitioner with good knowledge, techniques and products. A fundamental difference between professional and non-professional practitioners is also the help offered should complications arise.

With so many skilled practitioners on the market, there's less reason to take unnecessary risks with your skin and appearance. Remember, you're paying for much more than just the shot, no matter which injection treatment it is.

The authorities have banned all marketing and information about wrinkle treatments with prescription drugs. If you're wondering why I haven't published before/after pictures of my work, the same applies, it's illegal to publish on social media. I can show before/after pictures at a consultation.

If you would like more information about these treatments, you are welcome to a free non-binding consultation:-)
